The European Union's new stablecoin regulations have taken effect, imposing strict reserve, transparency and redemption requirements on issuers operating within the bloc.
Issuers must now hold reserves in high-quality liquid assets, publish regular attestations and guarantee 1:1 redemption rights for holders.
Major issuers have already adjusted their operations to comply, while smaller players face higher compliance costs that could drive consolidation.
The rules are expected to become a template for other jurisdictions, as regulators worldwide seek to bring stablecoins into the traditional financial framework.
